Wonder Woman

I work full-time and also fully believe in work-life balance.  I also have mild health issues that at times force me to put all my energy and effort into work (ya know, the job I get paid to do on a daily basis), leaving little energy at the end of the day for me to pursue my own passions.

So when progress started to slow and practically come to a stand-still on my dialogue piece, I knew it was time to address it.  I was learning, but didn't feel like I was getting anywhere.  Whether I've abandoned it or not, I'm not sure and frankly don't care in this moment.  I just know I needed to get back to doing some fun shit and getting excited to sit down at my computer at night (after sitting at it for 8 hours already during the day).

Wonder Woman was the perfect catalyst.  I thought it was going to be good, but had no idea it was going to be such an emotional experience for me.  After almost 10+ years of watching male superheroes tear up the big screen, I was so proud to see a woman kicking ass and saving a man for once!  When I look at the movie business and the VFX business (yup, the very industry I'm dying to get into) I'm disgusted with how few women there are -- at least according to the stats.  It's discouraging and infuriating all at the same time.  And sometimes that's the fuel for the fire that's need.

So thank you Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot (and every other female who touched that film) for bringing this character to life in such a regal and magnificent manner.  And thank you to all those who keep telling me this dream will never happen and I should just give up, on days like today, proving you wrong keeps me moving forward.

ANYWAY... I could rant about that for daysssss!  So -- Wonder Woman was some much needed inspiration for me to just get animating again.  I love posing, it's one of my favorite parts of the process.  So I thought, why not pose Wonder Woman?  Hence, the above still -- nope, I haven't forgotten what this blog is all about!

This thought process lead me down a road of posing my favorite "super" women from films I love.  Stay tuned!  Not sure what I'm going to do with all these poses and it's not "animating" but who cares?  I'm having fun and that's really what it's all about for me.  Thanks for making it through this wordy blog post!  Feel free to comment and let me know who your favorite badass women are!

Forgot to mention: I'm using the Tina rig by Joe Daniels, it's from his Body Mechanics Rig Mega Pack.  It's a super sweet rig, I've been pretty impressed with it, check it out!

Here's the image (soundtrack album art, in case you were wondering where I spotted it first) that served as inspiration for the pose above:

  1. Fantastic work and great thoughts, Katie! Thanks for sharing, and you have continued to grow as an artist, animator and professional.

There is a lot to be said when it comes to finding that creativity, after long exhausting days, and I commend you for fighting so hard, starting with your health, which is the most important thing in life. Keep fighting, and proving that you belong doing what you love and have in your heart.

Keep having fun with this! It's been inspiring and I look forward to more poses!

Favorite badass women in my life besides my mother and sister would be: Leia, Jean Grey, and Eowyn:)
